Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month (except July and August) at 2:00 p.m.
*** Meeting of 13 September 2011 ***
Prior to the meeting, a joint session was held with the Auxiliary. Gary Williamson gave a presentation on the Wreaths
Across America sponsored by the Civil Air Patrol. Auxiliary Commander Linda Brice informed the group that the
auxiliary will have a yard on Friday October 7th and requested donations for the event. She also displayed
a quilt that will be raffled off. John Seaman spoke about the Nature Coast All Veterans Reunion scheduled for October
2nd thru 9th. He requested volunteers to man the DAV booth at the event.
The meeting was called to order by Commander Richard Floyd at 1425.
There were 15 members present.
Proper opening ceremonies were held.
Roll call of officers - all present .
The Adjutant read the minutes of the
14 June 2011 meeting.
The minutes were corrected to read:
Upon return of the old van to the chapter, the Commander recommended selling the van.
The members voted in favor of selling the van as recommended.
Treasurer Paul Curry presented the treasurers report for this period.
The report was accepted as read.
There were no outstanding bills.
Membership Chairman Archie Gooding reported one new members.
The membership now totals 665.
Chaplain John Seaman reported that twelve members passed away since our last meeting.
They were:
Edward Sweeney age 83 of Floral City on 6/7
Thomas Bobinski age 80 of Homosassa rpt. By National on 7/6
Frank Gianneti age 88 of Rio Rancho, NM on 7/18
Oliver Forand age 97 of Beverly Hills on 7/18
Roger Moore age 67 of Floral City on 8/4
William Brown age 78 of Inverness on 8/6
Howard Carter age 63 of Hernando on 8/9
Don Taylor age 88 of Beverly Hills on 8/24
Elwood Currier age 81 of Merritt Island on 8/26
Louie Falzarano age 85 of Inverness on 9/1
Marion Myrick age 93 of Floral City on 9/9
Joseph Brown age 95 of Beverly Hills on 9/3
There were no reports of sickness.
There was further discussion on disposal of the old van.
John Seaman reported that he went to the county dept. of Motor Vehicles to obtain proper paperwork for registration.
Although we have the title, it is registered to the VA in Gainesville and it was not signed over to us.
The clerk recommended having the VA sign over by Power of Attorney to a member of the chapter.
The Power of Attorney was assigned to John Seaman and all paperwork was delivered to Kevin Clark at the VA.
The paperwork is still in their hands.
The van was advertised in the Chronicle for closed bids to be received by 16 September.
In further discussion it was recommended to place an add on Ebay or donate it to the veterans shelter.
The Commander reported to the members on the property of the late M O Byrnes.
The property consists of a mobile home and two out buildings.
The out buildings dilapidated and the mobile is in shabby condition.
The grounds are overgrown and in need of an extensive cleanup.
There has been no progress report from the attorneys in regards to execution of the will.
In other reports, Joe Stephens reported that the chapter is now on Facebook.
Under good of the order, Ray Michael reported that Cornerstone Church will have veterans program on Sunday 6 November.
All are invited.
It was also reported that there are questionable veterans organizations in the area soliciting donations.
Being no other business, proper closing ceremonies were held and the meeting was adjourned at 1515.
