Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month (except July and August) at 2:00 p.m.





*** Meeting of 10 May 2011 ***

The meeting was called to order by Commander Richard Floyd at 1400.

There were 22 members present.

Proper opening ceremonies were held.

Roll call of officers-all present with the exception of JVC John Skjefte.

The Adjutant read the minutes of the 12 April 2011 meeting.
The minutes were accepted as read.

Treasurer Paul Curry presented the Treasurers Report for this period.
The report was accepted as read.

Chaplain John Seaman reported that four members were listed as deceased in the March Membership Activity Report.
They were:
Bruce Baldwin age 84 of Binghamton, NY rpt. March 15, 2011
Willis Bockee age 102 of Homosassa rpt. March 10, 2011
David Brown age 55 of Middlefield, OH rpt. March 8, 2011
Charles Young age 98 of Hot Springs, AR rpt. March 15, 2011

Members Billie Riley, Sterling Hayes and Harry Hudson were on the mend from various illnesses.
Also, Mavis Delain Dickerson, wife Spencer Dickerson was reported ill.

Under correspondence, briefly noted on a. April News Service & Washington Update,
b. March Membership Bulletin and c.
Ltr. On DAV National Convention August 6 thru 9 in New Orleans.

The Commander read portions of a letter sent by Bill Geden to the CCVC in regards to the food pantry shed on the DAV property. Being that the Chapter was not directly involved, no action was necessary.

Membership Chairman Archie Gooding reported that local membership ( within our 344 zip code) was at 394 members.
Three new members were signed up during this period.

Service Officer Joe McClister reported that he is working claims at this time.

Under miscellaneous business, the Commander reported that a quote to fabricate a replacement 3x5 DAV flag using parts from the existing flag would cost between $300 to $350. (ibid: THIS IS THE CHAPTER UNIT FLAG - reads "DAV CITRUS CHAPTER 70")
A new flag, ordered from National would cost $575.
After much discussion, a motion was made (by Elwood McElihiney) seconded and approved to purchase the new 3x5 flag.

The issue of sponsoring a WWII veteran to visit the memorial in Washington, DC was discussed.
The cost is $400 per veteran.
Joe Stephens will post it on our web site that we will consider sponsoring a veteran from Citrus county. "Honor Flight"

Nominating Committeeman Gary Williamson listed the members nominated for office for the 2011/2012 year.
They were:

Sr. Vice Comdr. - Archie Gooding
Jr. Vice Comdr. - Gary Williamson
Treasurer - Paul Curry
Chaplain - John Seaman
Sgt. @ Arms - Neville Anderson
There were no additional nominations from the floor.
The Adjutant cast one vote for the nominees.

Archie Gooding announced that Rolling Thunder Chapter 7 would be holding their annual golf tournament on 18 June.
He made a motion to sponsor the event as we have done in the past. Cost - $350.
The motion was seconded and approved by the members.

The Commander suggested a luncheon next month after the meeting.
A motion was made, seconded and approved at a cost of $5.00 per person.
The Commander was designated to select the restaurant.

Being no other business, proper closing ceremonies were held and the meeting was adjourned at 1508.
