DAV Chapter 70

Meeting of 9 September 2003



Service Officer Frank Bachteler called, the meeting to order at 2:05 PM.
filling in for Commander Geden who was out of town.

There were 14 members and 1 guest present. Sign In Sheet

Chaplain Wayne Stilts led the the members in prayer.

Comrade Bachteler led the members in the Pledge of Allegience.

The Adjutant read the roll call of officers, ( see encl: 2)

The Adjutant read the minutes of the 10 June 2003 meeting.
The minutes were approved as read.

Treasurers Report: Treasurer Charles Huelsmann presented the Treasurers Report for the months of June, July & August as well as bills against the chapter for this period.
The Treasurers Report & bills were approved as read. (see encl; 3)

Chaplains Report: Chaplain Wayne Stilts announced that three members had passed away during this period.
They were Herman Harpin of Homosassa,
Alexander Zawalich of Inverness
and Tom Delano of Inverness.

Adjutant Seaman reported that yearly distribution list recently received from National listed 60 members who had passed away during this period.

Executive Board Meetings: The Adjutant read the minutes of the 17 June 2003 Executive Board Meeting and 12 August 20035 Executive Board Meeting.
The main topic being kitchen renovations.V Comrade Bachteler announced that the revised cost for the renovations would be ;$9,100.00.
Treasurer Huelsmann said there were additional changes such as a two bowl sink vs a three bowl sink and relocation of the water heater.
Comrade Bachteler requested an additional $150.00 for a cutting board and hot plate.
After much discussion the basic amount of $9,100.00 was approved by the membership.

Committee Reports:
Membership: A request for transfer to our chapter was received from National for Gary D. Spence of Homosassa.
The request was approved by the members.

There were no other committee reports.

Old/Unfinished Business:
A brief discussion was held in regards to a new floor for the kitchen.
Further discussion will be held at the next meeting.

New Business:
Adjutant Seaman advised the members that while removing some of the old pressboard and wood, live termites were found in the materials. It appeared that some of the wood had been infested for some time. He also advised that termite droppings were found around the front door frame work approximately three years ago.
That area was spot treated, at that time. The Adjutant advised that the building be further inspected by a termite company.
A proposal was made, seconded and approved to obtain a termite inspection.
The Adjutant also advised that estimates were solicited for replacing of doors, soffit screen replacement and exterior painting.
The only quote received to date was for painting for the amount of $1,550.00.

The Adjutant advised that no repair action be taken until completion of a termite inspection.

In other business the Adjutant read a letter from veteran John Norman of Floral City who was seeking financial assistance. The Adjutant advised that he had given a copy of the letter to John Dudas of the County Veterans Affairs Office.
Any action was defered until the next meeting.

In other business the Adjutant advised that Service Officer Frank Bachteler wanted to set up an office to assist veterans. The office would be open once a week. A desk is needed and the Adjutant advised that a steel desk was available for $20.00.V The purchase of the desk was approved by the members.

In other business, guest Paul Winburn announced that the VA had cut off his disability payments.
He was seeking assistance from the chapter in his claim. He had contacted the County Veterans Affairs Office but did not feel that they offered any help. He stated that he had appointed the VFW as his POA.
Jose Camacho advised that he seek assistance from his doctor in re-establishing his claim.

In other business Adjutant Seaman read the schedule for Veterans Apprec. Week.
He urged particapation by the members for these events and for our Forget Me Not drive and Golden Corral.
Sr. Vice Commander John Skjefke urged the members to participate in the Veterans In The Classroom Program and Forget Me Not Drive.
John also advised the members of a steamboat round dinner at American Legion Post 155 in Crystal River on

Nov. 7th(?) from 5 to 7 PM. The cost is $6.50 per person.
John also reminded, the members of the Ad Hoc Committee meeting on the third Wednesday at the Chronicle building in Meadowcrest at 1:50 PM.

9 O'clock services were held.

A joint meeting was held with the Auxiliary.
Ann Cope said she would order items for the veterans fair at the mall.
She also advised the members that Area Committeeman Grady Broussard was in critical condition after a car accident in Mississippi.

A motion to adjourn was made, seconded and approved.

50/50 drawing was held. $14.00 to the general fund.
