DAV Chapter 70

Meeting of 13 May 2003



The regular monthly meeting of DAV Chapter 70 was held May 13, 2003.

Commander Bill Geden called the meeting to order at 2 PM.VV There were 15 members present. - Sign In Sheet

Opening ceremony: Chaplain Wayne Stilts led the members in prayer, and Commander Geden led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Roll call of officers: Commander Bill Geden, present;
Sr. Vice Commander John Skjefte, excused;
Jr. Vice Commander Jose Camacho, present;
Treasurer Charles Huelsmann present;
Chaplain Wayne Stilts, present;
Sgt. at Arms Doug Robinson, present;
Service Officer, Frank Bachteler, present;
Adjutant John Seaman, excused;
and Judge Advocate, Frank Bachteler present.
A quorum was present.

Introduction of Guests: Adjutant John Seaman introduced Robert Kline, Adjutant Fifth District, Chapter 67.

Minutes of Previous Meeting: The minutes were read by Charles Huelsmann.
A motion to approve the minutes was seconded and carried.

Treasurer's Report: Treasurer Charles Huelsmann gave the treasurer's report.
The treasurer's report is included as an attachment.
A motion to accept the treasurer's report was seconded and approved as presented.

Sickness and Distress: Sickness and Distress report was given by Chaplain Stilts.
Deceased members are:
Clarence J. Rice, age 80, Crystal River, April 9, 2003;
and Franklin A. Brahum, age 82, Floral City, April 12, 2003.

Communications: Adjutant John Seaman shared a letter from Fero Funeral Home and Memorial Garden. - Link
Veterans of Foreign War's Harry F. Nesbitt, Post 10087 requests the presence of DAV Chapter 70 members for a memorial service May 26th at 10:30 AM. Link
Reminder of the District 5 meeting , May 18, 2003, 1 PM, at Chapter 96.
State convention, June 5 - 7, 2003, at Altmonte Springs.

Election of Officers: Motion made a seconded to suspend further business and hold the election of officers.
Motion carried.
The following officers were elected.
Commander, Bill Geden;
Sr. Vice-Commander, John Skjefte;
Jr. Vice Commander, Jose Camacho;
Treasurer, Charles Huelsmann;
Chaplain, Wayne Stilts;
Sgt. at Arms, Doug Robinson.

Commander Geden appointed John Seaman as Adjutant, Frank Bachteler as Service Officer and Judge Advocate and Louis Sweatman as Officer of the Day.
Fifth District Adjutant Bob Kline conducted the installation ceremony.

Reports: No reports were given for Membership, Legislative, or Service Officer.

New Business: A motion was made and seconded to support the inclusion of the words "Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Motion carried.

Frank Bachteler read a paper he had written in August 25, 1978 entitled Our God, Our Country, Love and Us, which is included as an attachment. - Link

Request made for the Bunn coffee maker replacement.
The treasurer was instructed to purchase a "Mr. Coffee" unit as a replacement.

Moment of Silence: A moment of silence was observed for our fallen comrades.

Closing ceremony: Salute to the flag and the closing prayer by Chaplain Wayne Stilts.

Motion to adjourn: Motion to adjourn carried. Luncheon at Golden Coral followed for those attending.

50/50 drawing: Sixteen dollars to the general fund.
Damon Shingleton donated $15 of 50/50 back to chapter.
