DAV Chapter 70
Meeting of 15 January 2003
Commander Bill Geden called the meeting to order at 2:10 PM.
There were 13 members present and one guest present (Joseph Loomis) -

Chaplain Wayne Stilts led the members in prayer.
The Commander led the members in the Pledge of Allegience.
The Adjutant read the roll call of officers,
(see encl: 1)
The Adjutant read the minutes of the
10 December 2002 meeting.
The minutes were approved as read.
Treasurers Report: Treasurer Charles Huelsmann presented the treasurers report for the month of
December 2002.
A motion to accept the treasurers report was made by Frank Bachteler, seconded and approved by the membership.
(The Webmaster deems it undesirable to place such documents on this site and suggest that members of the Chapter
contact the Treasurer for any such information - Thank you)
Bills against the Chapter: The Adjutant and Treasurer presented the existing bills against the chapter.
A motion to pay the bills was made by Frank Bachteler, seconded by Doug Robinson and approved by the members. (see encl: 2)
Chaplains Report: Chaplain Wayne Stilts reported that two members were in the hospital.
Service Officer Bob Lebert is in Tampa General recovering after a fall off his roof.
Public Affairs Officer John Skjefke is in the hospital recovering from surgery.
The Commander reported that SVC Louis Sweatman was not doing very well at Citrus Health and Rehab.
Communications: The Adjutant read the communications sent to the chapter since the last meeting which
included:
Two (2) Thank you letters from James Haley VA Hospital in Tampa, American Legion Post 225
Thank you letters on Boys State donation,
DAV Membership Bulletins dated 11/50 & 12/31,
Citrus HS letter dated 11/18/02 & various state DAV online mail.
Request for Assistance: Sharon Mathis of 5750 N. Carl Rose Hwy. Heranado, the widow of a disabled
veteran, requested financial assistance from the chapter.
Her case was referred to the Citrus County Veterans Affairs Office.
Reddick Davis of Hernando was also seeking financial assistance. She

The chapter awarded Comrade Davis $50.00.
Both were given a list of organizations that may also be able to assist them.
Old/Unfinished Business: The Adjutant reminded the members who were eligible for the Korean War
Service Medal to return the completed forms to the February meeting so they could be submitted to Chapter 11.
Commander Geden brought the members up to date on resolving the copy machine dispute with GE credit.
New Business: The Commander announced that Louis Sweatman has resigned as Sr. Vice Commander due to
medical reasons.
The Commander has appointed John Skjefke to complete term of office.
John will also handle the newsletter.
The Commander also announced that Frank Bachteler will take over the duties of Public Affairs Officer.
In his first duties, Frank and Jose Oamacho passed out calendars, pens and memo books to the members.
A contractor submitted a bid to paint our flagpole for $92.50.
Maintenance to the flagpole was deferred at this time.
Charles Huelsmann presented the case of disabled veteran Bob Jackway.
Upon hearing the evidence, the chapter awarded the veteran $100.00 in financial assistance.
The Commander awarded framed pictures of events to Frank Bachteler, John Skjefke, Charles Huelsmann and John Seaman.
Membership: The membership voted to accept the transfer of William King to the chapter from Chapter 54
in Ohio.
The membership also voted to accept the membership of Joseph Loomis, of Rockford, IL.
Comrade Loomis was sponsored by Mac Armitage.
In a joint meeting with the Auxiliary, Nancy Geden announced that the flea market will be held on 25 January.
(Saturday).
Help was requested of chapter members.
9 O'clock services were held.
Meeting adjourned.
