DAV Chapter 70

Meeting of
11 February 2003



Commander Bill Geden called the meeting to order at 2 PM.

There were 15 members present - Sign In Sheet

Chaplain Wayne Stilts led the members in prayer.

The Commander led the members in the Pledge of Allegience.

The Adjutant read the roll call of officers.
The Sr. Vice Commander, Sgt. at Arms and Service Officer were not in attendance. - Link

The Adjutant read the minutes of the 15 January 2003 meeting.
The minutes were approved as read.

Treasurers Report: Treasurer Charles Huelsmann presented the Treasurers Report for the month of January 2005.
Bills against the chapter: were also presented.
A motion to accept the treasurers report and bills was made by Jim Danek, seconded and approved by the membership.

Chaplains Report: Chaplain Wayne Stilts reported that five members had passed away since the last meeting.
They were:
Thomas Fields of Beverly Hills age 56,
Thomas Dunn of Crystal River age 55,
James Tacy of Lecanto age 72,
James Inlow of Dunneilon age 85
and John Blankenbeckler of Homosassa age 81.

The Commander announced that he had been assisting a couple, Michael & Debbie Cooper.
They were requesting additional assistance and were expected to stop by during our meeting.

Communications: The Adjutant briefly reviewed all correspodence sent to the chapter since the last meeting which included DAY memo bulletin dated 12/31/02,
DAV Mid Winter Meeting memo dated 1/13/03,
DAV News Service bulletin dated 2/03,
DAV Membership Report dated 12/31/02,
DAV Awards Bulletin dated Jan. 2003,
various e-Mail notices,
IPS dinner invitation for 2/15/03,
and various newspaper articles on VA benefits.
The correspondence was distributed to the members to review.

The Commander gave a brief report on insurance coverage for the building.
It appears that we are being charged for coverage we really don´t need. There also appears to be a problem obtaining coverage due to the age of the building.

The Commander also announced, that Eveready Safety Equipment Company had neglected to service our fire extinguisers last year.
The serviceman was supposed to be here today but did not show up by the end of the meeting.
He will look into purchasing new extinguishers.

The Commander also announced that the Sheriffs Department had contacted him and Jose Camacho about improving the security of the building and storage shed.
He told them that nothing would be done at this time.
What they had suggested was cost prohibitive and would be addressed when we made other improvements to the building.

Committee Reports: There were no committee reports due to the illness of the Service Officer and Membership Chairman.

Old/Unfinished Business: The adjutant reminded the members who were eligible for the Korean War Service Medal to return the completed forms to Charles Huelsmann no later than the March meeting.
The Adjutant distributed the design of the DAV plate as proposed at the December 2002 meeting.
The members approved the basic design and the additional $13.95 in shipping charges.

New Business: Charles Huelsmann read the contents of House Bills 56 & 58.
After some discussion, Commander Geden urged the members to support the bills.
Copies of a letter supporting the bills were passed out to the members.
The letters were signed and will be sent to our representatives by Charles Huelsmann.

Adjutant Seaman informed the members that he will be undergoing surgery and will not be able to perform the duties of adjutant.
He asked if anyone would care to take over the duties for the next several months.
There were no volunteers.
Frank Bachteler will assume the duties in comrade Seamans absence.

9 O'clock services were held.

Frank Bachteler made a motion to adjourn.
The motion was seconded and passed by the membership.

50/50 drawing was held and won by Adjutant Seaman who returned it to the chapter less $1.00.
$14.00 to the general fund.
