DAV Chapter 70
Meeting of 8 April 2003
The regular monthly meeting of DAV Chapter 70 was held March 12, 2003.

Past Commander Frank Bachteler called the meeting to order at 2 PM.
There were 11 members present.

Opening ceremony: Chaplain Wayne Stilts led the members in prayer, and Past Commander Bachteler led the
members in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
Roll call of officers:
Commander Bill Geden, present;
Sr. Vice Commander John Skjefte, excused;
Jr. Vice Commander Jose Camacho, present;
Treasurer Charles Huelsmann present;
Chaplain Wayne Stilts, present;
Sgt. at Arms Doug Robinson, present;
Service Officer, Frank Bachteler, present;
Adjutant John Seaman, excused;
and Judge Advocate, Frank Bachteler present.
A quorum was present.
Minutes of Previous Meeting: The
minutes were read by Frank Bachteler.
The minutes were approved as read.
Treasurer's Report: Treasurer Charles Huelsmann gave the treasurer's report.
The treasurer's report is included as an attachment.
The treasurer's report was approved without correction.

Sickness and Distress: Sickness and Distress report was given by Chaplain Stilts.
Deceased members are:
Hurley B. Miller, age 83, Dunnellon, March 8, 2003;
John L. Yoakem, age 55, Homosassa, March 11, 2003;
Charles Hamilton, Age 75, Homosassa, March 19, 2003;
Thomas W. Getts, age 56, Crystal River, April 1, 2003;
Hartwell A. Dew Jr., age 76, Crystal River, March 31, 2003.
Communications: Past Commander Bachteler reported on Korean War Stories, an Emmy-award winning
documentary, which will receive a special Memorial Day airing on PBS on May 26, 2003.

Reminder of the District 5 meeting, May 18, 2003, Chapter 96.
State convention June 6, Altmonte Springs.
Reports: No reports were given for Membership, Legislative, or Service Officer.
Unfinished business: Commander Geden thanked Charles and Dorothy Huelsmann for the work done on the
newsletter.
Commander Geden reported that communications received from members with regard to the newsletter favorable.
Mr. Huelsmann stated that work would commence for the May newsletter.
New Business: Nominations of officers were as follows:
Commander - Bill Geden made by Frank Bachteler.
Nominations closed temporarily until next meeting.
Sr. Vice-commander - John Skjefte made by Frank Bachteler
and nominations closed temporarily until next meeting.
Jr. Vice-commander - Jose Camacho made by Frank Bachteler.
Nominations temporarily closed until next meeting.
Frank Bachteler asked for support for his upcoming election for Sr. Vice-commander of District 5.
Commander Geden said he would nominate Frank for that position.
Charles Huelsmann reported on the past commanders' photo gallery.
Jim Danek sent in a photo, and a note was read from John Cope that he had no desire to have his picture displayed.
He felt the money could be used for more important reasons.
No response from John Seaman, Bob Kline, or Steve Cieslewicz.
The Department of Florida was contacted in regard to researching their records for past commanders of Chapter 70,
and it may be a considerable delay before this information would be forth coming if at all.
Commander Geden stated he would prefer to display all past commanders including Chapter 139.
The first priority would be displaying Chapter 70 past commanders with respect to a sequence of events.
Good of the Order: Repair of the ventilator screens was being taken care of.
Repairs of the screen wire in the soffit is a future consideration.
Moment of Silence: A moment of silence was observed for our fallen comrades.
Closing ceremony: Salute to the flag and the closing prayer by Chaplain Wayne Stilts.
Motion to adjourn: Motion to adjourn by Jim Danek, seconded by Wayne Stilts, and carried;
50/50 drawing: Nine dollars to the general fund.
