DAV Chapter 70

Meeting of 12 November 2002



At the request of Commander Bill Geden, Adjutant John Seaman called the meeting to order at 2:05 PM.

There were 22 members present. Sign In Sheet

Chaplain Wayne Stilts led the members in prayer.

The Adjutant led the members in the Pledge of Allegience.

The Adjutant read the roll call of officers.
All were present. Roll Call

The Adjutant read the minutes of the 8 October 2002 meeting.
The minutes were approved as read.

Treasurers Report: Treasurer Charles Huelsmann presented the treasurers report for the month of October 2002.
The report also included bills against the chapter.
Bob Lebert made amotion to accept the report.
The motion was seconded and approved by the membership.

Chaplains Report: Chaplain Wayne Stilts reported that one member was ill - Nicholas Pappalardo of Lecanto.
The death of Noel Colvin, age 62 of Homosassa was noted in todays paper.

Membership Report: Membership Chairman Louis Sweatman reported that 5 DAV members wished to transfer into Chapter 70.
They are Joseph Maczik of Lecanto, Cheryl-Lyn Avery of Beverly Hills and Ronald Carnevale of Hernando.
A motion to accept the new members was made by Bob Lebert, seconded and approved by the membership.

Communications: The Adjutant read the communications sent to the chapter since the last meeting which included:
DAV 5th District letter dated 22 Oct. 2002 in regards to approved changes to National Constitution & Bylaws,
Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office letter dated 11 Sept. 2002,
dav Chapter 16 letter dated (not given) in regards to DIC,
Letter from Susan Gill in regards to veteran biographys, increase in property exemption from $500.00 to $5000.00.
DAV Chapter 11 letter dated 1 Nov 2002 - Korean War Vterans.

Service Officer: Service Officer Bob Lebert read a number of news releases from the VA, which included, a cola increase of 1.4.

Old/Unfinished Business: John Skjefke announced, that the tax collector Janice warren would like to have any of the remaining Veterans Appreciation Week pins in order that her office could offer them for sale.
The Commander said he would contact her.

The Commander gave a brief update on the Veterans Appreciation Week activities.

New Business: Frank Bachteler gave areport on the Veterans Week activities at the Golden Corral.
Members of the chapter were there for four days.
The chapter collected $1,045.70 in donations which included approx. $1,450.00 in sales.
The Commander commended comrade Bachteler on his efforts at the Golden Corral.
Comrade Bachteler read a letter he wrote to the Golden Corral thanking them for this event.

Jim Danek provided information in regards to Chapter shirts for the members.

Adjutant Seaman provided information on the chapters support of the American Legion Boys State Program.
The chapter donated $275.00 to Post 155 in Crystal River for the program.
A motion was made to support a request from Floral City Post 225 this year and alternate in future years those Posts that support the program.
The motion was seconded and approved.

Frank Bachteler said that the chapters flags were starting to fall apart.
A motion Was made to get price quotes on replacement flags and also a banner.
The motion was seconded and approved.

Commander Geden commended Treasurer Charles Huelsmann efforts in obtaining a tax exempt certificate from the state.

A motion was made to send the Commander and his wife to the DAV Mid-Winter conference and pay their exspenses.
The motion was seconded and approved.

A motion was made to give Macdonalds $10.00 gift certificates to the six Young Marines who carried our colors during the Veterans day parade.
The motion was amended to also provide certificates of appreciation to each of them.
The motion was seconded and approved.
The Commander and Treasurer will research the certificates.

Bob Lebert said he would research some VFW certicates as well.

9 O'clock services were held.

Bob Lebert made a motion to adjourn.
The motion was seconded and approved by the membership.

The 50/50 drawings were won by Jim Danek and Frank Bachteler ($7.00 ea) $14.00 to the general fund.
