DAV Chapter 70

Meeting of 10 December 2002



Commander Bill Geden called the meeting to order at 2 PM.

There were 16 members present. Sign In Sheet

Chaplin Wayne Stilts led the members in prayer.

The Commander led the members in the Pledge of Allegience.

The Adjutant read the roll call of officers.
All present with the exception of SVC Louis Sweatman. Link

The Adjutant read the minutes of the 12 November 2002 meeting.
The minutes were approved as read.

Treasurers Report: Treasurer Charles Huelsmann presented the treasurers report for the month of November 2002.
A motion to accept by Frank Bachteler, seconded and approved by the membership.

Chaplains Report: Chaplain Wayne Stilts reported that four members had passed away.
They were: Noel Colvin, age 62 of Hompsassa, John Hamilton, age 75 of Homosassa, Wallace Hammerbeck, age 80 of Crystal River and Robert Layton, age 79 of Inglis.

Communications: The Adjutant read the communications sebt to this chapter since the last meeting which included:
DAV Chapter 11 letter dated 1 November 2002 - Korean War Veterans, Rode Kennedy letter on Sheriff Crimewatch.

Frank Bachteler also presented a report on a meeting at Chapter78.

Service Officers Report: Service Officer Bob Lebert reported that a case he had been assisting in has been concluded and the veteran has gotten his compensation.
Bob also said that he had raffle tickets available for Friends & Families of Retarded Adults.

Old/Unfinished Business: Commander Geden brought the members up to date on resolving the dispute on the old copy machine.
A motion was made to contact an attorney in order to resolve the issue.
The motion was seconded and approved by the membership.

The Commander also requested approval to contact an architect in regards to a building addition and remodeling.
The motion was approved by the membership.

New Business: The Commander announced that he has appointed John Skjetke as Public Affairs Officer.
His duties include editor of the newsletter.
Adjutant Seaman proposed, having a DAV Chapter 70 made up the cost for 125 plates would be approximately $200.00. The Adjutant will submit a sketch to the contractor who in turn will submit a proof to the chapter for our approval.
A motion was made by Frank Bachteler to appropriate the funds for the plate.
The motion was seconded and approved by the membership.

Jim Danek presented the chapter with a check for $250.00 from Nick Nicholas Ford.
The Adjutant will send a letter of appreciation to Mr. Nicholas for the donation.
Jim also announced that lettering was made up for the DAY van recognizing Chapter 70.
The lettering was installed by Jim who was commended by the members for his efforts.
Jim also gave the members a rundown on the Young Marine program.
The program has been supported by the chapter in the past.
There are now two units and Jim proposed a donation of $200.00 for each unit.
The motion was approved however the Commander requested that the donation be withheld until sometime after the awarding of certificates to the Young Marines who carried our colors during the Veterans Day parade.

Bills Against The Chaphter: The chapter approved the purchase of a briefcase for Frank Bachteler. ($25.55)
The chapter approved the purchase of headphones for patients at the Tampa VA Hospital. ($100.00)
The chapter approved the purchase of a briefcase for John Skjefke.
The chapter approved the purchase of raffle tickets for FFRA. ($20.00)

Good of the Order: Frank Bachteler gave a brief report on the N.Y. State Military Museum.
He also displayed several patriotic pins that were available for purchase.
Frank said he would order the pins if anyone was interested.
John Skjefke displayed a picture of Pearl Harbor Survivor Colin McKensey.
The Commander said he would have the picture reproduced.

9'O clock services were held.

Bob Lebert made amotion to adjourn.
The motion was seconded and approved.
Meeting adjourn.
