DAV Chapter 70
Meeting of 13 November 2001
Commander Frank Bachteler called the meeting to order at 2 PM.
There were 13, members present.
Chaplain Wayne Stilts led the members in prayer, and the Commander led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance to
the flag.
The roll call of officers is as follows:
Commander Frank Bachteler, present;
Sr. Vice Commander Tom Delano, Excused absence;
Jr. Vice Commander Jim Danek, present;
Treasurer Ken Thomas, excused absence;
Chaplain Wayne Stilts, present,
Sgt. at Arms Doug Robinson, present.
Service Officer, Bob Lepert, present;
Adjutant John Seaman, excused absence;
and Officer of the Day M. 0. Brynes, present.
The minutes were read by Charles Huelsmann.
A question about a membership transfer that is still pending was held in abeyance until a future date since
transfers can take some time before being completed.
The minutes were approved as read.
Treasurer's report summary was given by Commander Bachteler.
Beginning checking balance $6344.98.
Forget Me Not income $1040.85 with $641.23 collected at Golden Corral.
Ending checking balance $5765.20.
Lot purchase $$3818.25.
CD beginning balance $45,875.82, and the ending balance of $42,140.15.
Treasurer's report accepted as read.
Treasury summary is included as an attachment.(**)
A question was asked with regard to renting the building.
The building had been rented in the past, but the size was a restricting quality and renting not encouraged.
Chaplain Wayne Stilts announced the death of member James A Matlock.
The Commander asked for a moment of silence for the departed comrade.
A question was asked if a letter of condolence was sent to the immediate family of the deceased.
The discussion that followed was that it is a general practice to send such a letter.
Membership committee no report.
No other committee reports.
Old/ Unfinished business: John Cope introduced the subject Christmas for Children.
Time was getting short and a committee needed to be establuhed with the Auxiliary to accomplish the goals of
this committee.
A general discussion followed with a concern about purchasing gifts from Wal-Mart.
Last year a donation was requested from Wal-Mart after a gift purchase value of about $500.
This request was made by letter in anticipation of a gift from Wal-Mart of 10% of the purchase amount.
No response was made by Wal-Mart, and it was suggested to patronize K-Mart.
A motion was made by Doug Robinson and seconded by Bob Lebert to have the Adjutant draft a letter to Wal-Mart
explaining the reason for transferring the purchase of gifts elsewhere.
Motion carried.
More discussion followed about the choice of retailers and sending a letter of explanation.
A motion was made to rescind the previous motion by Robert O'Keefe seconded by Doug Robinson.
Motion carried.
Arrangements for Christmas for Children are pending.
New Business: Charles Huelsmann read a letter with regard to a Service Officer Seminar from Al Linden.
The dates are January 8 through the 12th, 2001, at Altamonte Springs.
The Commander asked for $350 allocation to cover the expense of the Service Officer while attending me seminar.
Motion made by Bob O'Keefe, seconded by Doug Robinson and carried.
A motion was made by M. 0. Brynes, seconded by Doug Robinson to allocate $300 to cover the expenses of the Commander
while attending said meeting.
Motion carried.
It was suggested that all expenses be documented by receipts.
Jim Danek reported that the insurance cost would not increase because of the additional property as long as
buildines were not niaced on the additional nronerty.

Jim Danek explained a purchase plan for vehicles as outlined in the May June July August issue of the DAV magazine.
Ford Motor Company now includes DAV for recognition pricing.
Includes Mercury, Mazda, Range Rover, Volvo, and other Ford products.
This means a no haggle price.
Buy under the X plan.
You will receive pin number after calling a 800 number.
This amounts to 4% over dead invoice price.
This is for new product only.
Mazda is has a plan which is no percentage over.
Information is available for more details.
Good of the Order: M. 0. Brynes explained that the 10% surcharge paid to the Department of State was to cover
the cost of travel for Commanders, and this travel reimbursement program has been discontinued.
One question the reason for paying the 10% to the Department of State.
Discussion which followed concluded that it would be difficult to eliminate the 10% surcharge on revenue raised
by the chapters.
Bob Lepert reported that there is a good possibility that prescription drug co-pay will be increased from $2 to $7.
At this point nothing definite is known as to when or if this change will take place.
The Commander called for a moment of silence for our fallen comrades.
The Commander led the members in paying respect to the flag.
The Chaplain led the members in prayer.
The 50/50 drawing was held, and $10 to the chapter's general fund.
Next meeting is December 11, 2001, 2 PM. Meeting adjourned.
