DAV Chapter 70
Meeting of 13 March 2001

Senior Vice Commander John Cope called the meeting to order at 2 PM.
Chaplain Wayne Stilts led the members in prayer.
Adjutant John Seaman led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance.

There was no joint meeting with the Auxiliary.

The Adjutant read the roll call of officers (see enclosure #1 Page 3).

The Adjutant read the minutes of the 13 February 2001 meeting.
The minutes were approved as read.

Treasurers Report: Treasurer Frank Bachteler gave the treasurers report for the month of February 2001. (see enclosure #2 Page 4).
Amotion to approve the report was made by Doug Robinson, seconded by Max Alvarez and passed by the members.

Chaplains Report: Chaplain Wayne Stilts announced that there were no reports of sickness or deaths.

Guests: Sr. Vice Cmdr. Cope introduced DAV Area 3 Representative Grady Broussard.
Representative Broussard gave a brief talk on various topics and reminded the members of the upcoming district, state and national meetings and coventions.
He asked for the chapters continued support as area 3 representative.

Membership Committee: Chairman John Cope read the names of new members from the National Membership report of 31 Jan. 2001.
A motion to accept the new members was made by Frank Bachteler, seconded by Doug Robinson passed by the members.

Service Officers Report; Service Officer Bob Lebert announced that J. J. Kenney has taken over as Citrus County Veterans Service Officer and that the county will be seeking an assistant veterans service officer.

Communications: Adjutant John Seaman read the communications sent to the chapter since last meeting which included:
Tricare Fact Sheet #5,
DAV Mobile Service Program & MSO schedule,
DAV letter on wheelchair games,
Fla. Dept. of Education notice on scholarships for children

of deceased, or disabled veterans.

DAV Membership bulletin did 31 Jan. 2001,

Other correspondence will be read under new business.

Old Business: None

New Business;
Adjutant Seaman read a letter from former Ex POW Commander Bob Dietz, which included a donation of $25.00 to the chapter.
After a brief discussion, the membership voted to remand the donation to the building fund and the arrangement with the Ex-POWs use of the building to remain as before.
In other new business, the chapter approved a $50.00 donation to the 21st National Veterans Wheelchair games,
motion - Bob Lebert, seconded by Doug Robinson.
In other new business. Adjutant Seaman read a letter from Chapter 139 requesting a joint meeting to discuss the possible merger of Ch. 139 into Ch. 70.
Adjutant Seaman informed the membership that a meeting will be held on Thursday 15 March at Chapter 70.
The meeting will consist of Cmdr Jim Danek, Treasurer Frank Bachteler and Adjutant John Seaman of Chapter 70 and Cmdr/Act;. Treasurer Ward Cady and Adjutant Charles Huelsmann of Chapter 139.
The chapter will be fully informed of all events in regards to this matter.
Committeeman Broussard advised the membership the proceedures involved in approval of chapter mergers.
In other new business, Committeeman Broussard explained the Veterans Canteen Services Program for the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital.
After discussion, the members voted to donate $50.00 to VCS-673.
Motion - Al Merrill, seconded - Doug Robinson.
In other new business. Adjutant Seaman read a letter from the Citrus County Veteran Service Office requesting assistance from veterans groups for a veteran in distress.
After much discussion, the members voted to table any action until more information could be gathered.
Motion - Bob Lebert, Seconded - Jose Camacho.

9 O'clock services were held.
A motion to adjourn was approved.

50/50 drawings were won by Walter Wade and Max Alverez. $16.00 to the general fund.
