DAV Chapter 70
Meeting of 12 June 2001
Commander Frank Bachteler called the meeting to order at 2 PM.
Chaplain Wayne Stilts led the members in prayer.
The Commander led the members in the Pledge of Allegience.
The Adjutant read the roll call of officers.
All present or accounted for. (see encl. # 1)
The Adjutant read the minutes of the 8 May 2001 meeting.
The minutes were approved as read.
Treasurers Report; Treasurer Ken Thomas gave the treasurers report for the month of May 2001.
The report was approved as read. (see encl. #2)
Chaplains Report: Chaplain Wayne Stilts announced that two members had passed away.
Jerry DiPaola of Inverness on 15 May 2001
Melvin Newsome of Inverness on 8 June 2001
Communications: Adjutant Seaman read the communications sent to the chapter since the lst meeting, which included:
a thank you card from Deborah Lane for our contribution,
a thank you card and letter of appreciation from the Young Marines for our contribution.
Citrus County Veterans Appreciation Week notice,
Tricare Fact Sheets #5, 6 and 7 dtd May 2001.
VA TelCare notice and Citrus County Vote in Honor of a Veteran program.
Old Business: Adjutant Seaman announced that the Officer of the Day post was still open.
Commander Bachteler asked Jose Camacho if he would take the appointment.
Comrade Camacho declined.
M. O. Byrnes volunteered his services.
The Commander appointed Comrade Byrnes as Officer of the Day.
New Business: Tom Delano made a motion to ammend the Rules & Regulations of the Chapter.
The motion was seconded by M. O. Byrnes and passed by the membership.
A second motion was made by Tom Delano to provide a $25.00 petty cash fund to the Commander and Adjutant for
incidental purchases.

John Cope announced that the Chapter was in violation of Article 5 of the Rules and Regulations dtd 11 January 1994.
After much discussion, Bob Lebert made a motion to ammend the Rules and Regulations and reword Article #5 as
appropriate.
Both motions were seconded by Tom Delano and passed by the membership(*a).
The motions will be presented to the membership in the September Newsletter and at the September and October
meetings.
Bob Lebert will draw up the wording for the proposed ammendments.
(*a) there was one abstention on the voting.
In addition, the Rules and Regulations, Bylaws and Constitution will be reviewed and checked with the State DAV to
be on record.
Good of the Order: Ward Cady announced that the merger of Chapter 139 into Chapter 70 has been approved by the
State DAV and forwarded on to National.
Comrade Cady presented the Commander a check for the amount $41,000.00 from the Chapter 139 funds.
He said there was approximately $1,000.00 remaining to cover any outstanding bills.
Any remaining funds will also be turned over to Chapter 70.
Comrade Cady was applauded for his presentation and efforts in the chapters merger.
John Cope invited the chapters attention to Section 5, Para 1, Article 6 of the Costitution and Bylaws,
which pertains to unexcused absence of an officer.
Bob Lebert made a motion that the $41,000.00 be deposited in our account and held in abeyance until the merger is
approved by National.
(ibid: Nowhere in the notes of in these minutes was there a second on the above motion - nor a vote by the members)
9 O'clock services were held for our most recent departed comrades.
A joint meeting was held with the Auxiliary.
Adjutant Ann Cope registered her displeasure with the chapter for lack of recognition and communication with
the chapter.
She wanted to know the status of the Chapter 139 auxiliary and their funds.
Comrade Byrnes told her to contact Rita George, Chapter 139 Auxiliary Commander for information.
Bob Lebert also suggested that the auxiliary contact the State DAVA for information.
A motion to adjourn was made by Bob Lebert, seconded by Doug Robinson and approved by the membership.
50/50 drawings were won by Lil Robinson ($5.00) & John Schroeder ($4.00) - $9.00 to the general fund.
