DAV Chapter 70
Meeting of 10 April 2001

Commander Jim Danak called, the meeting to order, at 2 PM.
Chaplain Wayne Stilts led the members in prayer.
The Commander led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance.

A joint meeting was held with the auxiliary to discuss luncheon plans for the May meeting.
It was decided that a luncheon would be held after the meeting at one of the local restaurants.
The auxiliary will handle the details and advise the chapter.

The Adjutant read the roll call of officers (see enclosure #1).

The Adjutant read the minutes of the 13 March 2001 meeting.
The minutes were approved as read.

Guests: There were two guests present.
SVC John Cope introduced Thomas Delano of Chapter 80 and Domenic Mastrandrea of Chapter 139.
Both requested to transfer into Chapter 70.
Membership Committee chairman John Cope read the names of new of new members from the National Membership Report of 28 February 2001.
A motion to accept all new members was made by Steve Cieslewicz, seconded by Doug Robinson and approved by the membership.

Treasurers Report; Treasurer Frank Bachteler advised the members that there was a correction to the treasurers report submitted at the 13 March meeting.
After explaining the correction.
Treasurer Bachteler gave the treasurers report for the month of March 2001.
After a discussion on chapter finances, a motion to accept the treasurers reports was made by Bob Lebert, seconded by Nick Pappas and approved by the membership.

Chaplains Report: Chaplain Wayne Stilts reported that their were no reports of sickness or deaths.
Auxiliary members Violet Newsom was recovering from an accident at Mariner Health Care and Shirley Seaman was in Oitrus Memorial Hospital with a broken hip after a fall.

Communications: Adjutant Seaman read. the communications sent to the chapter since the last meeting which included the DAV Membership Bulletin did 28 Feb. 2001 and the DAV News Service Bulletin.

Old Business: None

New Business: Commander Danek brought up the subject of a merger of Chapter 139 into Chapter 70.
Adjutant Seaman informed the membership of the events leading to the proposed merger which included a joint meeting with representatives of Chapter 139 and Chapter 70 on 15 March 2001 and an Executive Board meeting of Chapter 70 officers on 20 March 2001.
After a brief discussion, a motion to approve the merger following State and National guidelines was made by Bob Lebert, seconded by Frank Bachteler and unanimously approved by the 21 members present.

Adjutant Seaman brought up the subject of donations to Gainesville and Tampa VA hospital VAVS programs and the Lopez Nursing-Home in Land O Lakes.
Steve Cieslewicz advised the membership that both hospital VAVS programs were well funded at this time.
After additional discussion about our donations, a motion to donate $100.00 to the Lopez Nursing Home in Land O Lakes was made by Steve Cieslewicz, seconded by Al Merrill and approved by the membership.
The chapter will also consider an additional donation to NOTR VCS-673 in October.

Commander Danek provided the chapter with information about a program Representative Karen Thurman was sponsoring for the Young Marines of Citrus County.
The program is a trip to Washington, D.C. to include all transportation and lodging and a visit with the President.
The cost of the trip is $250.00 per person.
After a brief discussion on the program, a motion to sponsor one member of the Young Marines ($250) was made by Al Merrill, seconded by Nick Pappas and approved by the members.

Adjutant Seaman advised the members of the upcoming DAV Dept. of Florida Convention on June 7, 8 and 9 in Altemonte Springs.
After a discussion on the importance of the meeting and the chapters representation, a motion to sponsor one member to the convention at a cost not to exceed $250.00 was made by Steve Cieslewicz, seconded by Doug Robinson and approved by the members.
The member must provide all receipts of exspenses.
The funds will be provided from the Forget Me Not account.

For the next order of business. Commander Danek opened the floor for nomination of officers for the 2001/2002 year.
The nominations were as follows:
Commander - Prank Bachteler
Sr. Vice Commander - John Cope *
Jr. Vice Commander - Jim Danek
Treasurer - Ken Thomas
Chaplain - Wayne Stilts
Sgt at Arms - John Cope
* John Cope said he would only accept SVC if there were no other candidates.
Upon completion of nominations. Commander Danek turned the meeting over to SVC Cope and departed for work.

9 O'clock services were held.

Amotion to adjourn was made by Bob Lebert, seconded by Nick Pappas and approved by the members.

The 50/50 drawings were won by John Seaman and John Schroeder.
$21.00 was turned over to the general fund.

* After the regular meeting, Tom Delano said that he would be interested in running for SVC.
At that time, John Cope asked that his name be removed from the nomination of SVC.
