DAV Chapter 70
Meeting of 12 September 2000
A 50/50 drawing was held and won by Lil Robinson and Ben Iler.
Proceeds were turned over to the Treasurer.
Guests were introduced.
Ralph Soehnlein, 5th District Commander,
Ken Thomas - Beverly Hills,
John Smith - Hernando and our newest member Sam Knapp.
Joint Meeting: Bingo receipts were briefly discussed. The Treasurer will provide additional information
at the October meeting.
The joint meeting will reconvene at the end of the regular meeting to discuss luncheon plans for the October
meeting.
Commander Jim Danek called the meeting to order.
Chaplain Wayne Stilts led the members in prayer.
The Commander led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Adjutant read the roll call of officers, (see encl).
The Adjutant read the minutes of the meeting of 15 June.
Minutes approved as read.
Treasurers Report: Treasurer Al Gavlik gave his report for July.
A motion was made by Frank Bachteler to approve, seconded by Doug Robinson and passed by the members.
The Treasurer was awaiting bankstatements for the August report.
Chaplains Report: Chaplain Wayne Stilts read the names of members who passed away since the last meeting:
Thomas Mitchell, Louis Kennedy and Dante Reggiani.
Communications: The Commander advised the members of the Young Marines 2nd annual awards ceremony on
14 October and asked members to attend.
The Commander advised the members of a meeting with members of the Inverness American Legion and a list of
proposals by the legion. The Commander presented his views and after much discussion, Frank Bachteler made
a motion to reject the American Legions proposal. The motion was seconded by Buck I'lewsom and passed by the
members.
The Commander advised the members that he was able to get new insurance on our bulding at a lower rate ($524.00)

Membership Comm: Sr. Vice Commander John Cope introduced. Ken Thomas who wanted to join the chapter and
John Smith who wanted to transfer in. A motion to approve was made, seconded and passed by the members.
John Cope also advised that 14 members of the chapter were dropped by National for non payment of dues.
Unfinshished/New Business:
October 12th meeting. District Commanders visitation and luncheon.
Luncheon starts at 1 PM. Meeting at 2 PM.
Bingo receipts. Discussion tabled to October meeting. Motion - John Cope, seconded - Frank Bachteler, approved
by members.
Veterans Appreciation Week. Forget Me Not drive to be on 4 November.
Need volunteers for all events.
Sea Cadet program. Commander gave brief talk on program. Chapter will look into program in Citrus County and
decide about contributing to their efforts.
Commander Jim Danek set his goals for raising money and awareness of chapter. His goal is $6,000. for chapter.
John Schroeder, Al Merrill, John Cope and Frank Touby also offered constructive ideas.
Bingo - Need volunteers to work Bingo.
9 O'clock service was held.
Motion made to adjourn.
It was seconded and passed by the members.
Joint Meeting follow-up: Auxiliary will handle all arrangements for luncheon.
Chapter will foot the bill.
